Home Videos: Bringing Families Together

PicsIt’s true. Home videos can bring families together. Not all grandparents have high-speed internet so downloading those digital pictures you sent via email could take FOREVER! However, most older people have DVDs now. So you can take a short video put it on DVD and send it out priority mail.

I burn a DVD every time I get 3 or 4 videos finished. I make 7 copies and I send them to all of the grandparents, aunts and uncles, and godparents. A simple DVD menu and a nicely designed cover can make the video look like a thousand bucks. Not to mention, your family will love that you took the time to make the video and they will love seeing the kids.

Sadly, my family is all spread out, but my relatives don’t feel like they are missing as much because I make sure to send them videos of the special moments. If you don’t have a lot of video you can fill out the DVD with a slideshow of pictures.

Bottom Line: Home videos allow distant relatives to hear and see those special moments with your children. Special moments that they would not have been able to see otherwise.

Here is snippet from the cover of my last DVD. Yes, I went with the Matrix theme….it seemed like a good idea at the time.

If you have made any DVD covers for your family movies, send them to me and I’ll post them on the site!

I’m lucky. My dad’s a 76 year old geek. He makes the home digital movies of my kids, burns the DVDs and distributes them around the family. It’s nice to have retired grandpa that has such Hig-tech hobbies. He also scanned, organized, and distributed CDs of pictures of our family going back to the 19th century in Sweden and Norway. He saved everything in digital format. It gives us a sense of history, and brings us together. I plan to post it on a website soon.

Wow, that’s great! I have to admit, some of my family projects can become a little bit time-consuming. I can see how a retired Grandpa could get into this. Your family is really lucky to have someone who cares enough to do all of that for you. I’m sure you will all enjoy his work for generations to come. If you’re interested I can post a link to your family’s website. I know my readers would enjoy seeing someone else’s work. Thanks for stopping by!
